  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage
  • 1 c chopped onion
  • 1 c chopped mushroom
  • 1 c cooked rice
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 c Italian flavored bread crumbs
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 tsp crushed dried red pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 - 2 jars spaghetti sauce, or your favorite tomato sauce
  • 1 c diced fresh tomato

  1. In a large pot, boil about 4 quarts of water. Lower the temperature to medium-low heat so that the water is simmering.

  2. Cut out the core of the cabbage but leave the cabbage whole. Add the cabbage to the boiling water.

  3. After a minute or two, gently start removing the outer leaves of the cabbage and set aside. Once you have about fifteen to twenty leaves you should have enough for this recipe.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the meat, onion, mushroom, garlic, bread crumbs, egg, rice, and spices.

  5. Spray some non-stick spray in a baking pan. Take about a palm full of the meat mixture and place in the middle of one of the leaves. Carefully fold the leaves around the meat. Place the roll seam down in the baking pan. Repeat with the remaining leaves.

  6. Smother the cabbage rolls in your favorite tomato sauce. Spaghetti sauce also works great. Cover the rolls with a lid or foil.

  7. Preheat oven to 375° degrees F. Bake for one hour.
